Well, it is a tough decision. However, I prefer the more quiet and relaxed environment of the Riviera Maya than I do Cancun . Cancun can be hectic, more people, more traffic, & more of a “city” feel. But at the same time, it has all the conveniences of a city, such as, restaurants, bars, & shopping.
When to Visit the Riviera Maya The dry season begins in late November and ends in February, making this season the best time to visit the Riviera Maya. Avoid Riviera Maya travel from March through May , however – the heat and humidity are oppressive.
