Muhammad is born as a member of the tribe of Quraysh and the clan of Hāshim. His hometown of Mecca houses an ancient and famous pilgrimage sanctuary, the Kaʿbah. Although founded by Abraham, worship there has over time become dominated by polytheism and idolatry.
Abd Allah died before Muhammad’s birth and Muhammad was raised by his mother Amina, who in keeping with Meccan tradition entrusted her son at an early age to a wet nurse named Halima from the nomadic tribe of the Sa’d ibn Bakr. He grew up in the hill country, learning their pure Arabic.
According to tradition, the Islamic prophet Muhammad was born in Mecca around the year 570. His family belonged to the Quraysh, which was the chief tribe of Mecca and a dominant force in western Arabia.
The Quraysh (Arabic: قُرَيْشٌ, Hejazi pronunciation: [qʊrajʃ]) are a mercantile Arab tribal confederation that historically inhabited and controlled the city of Mecca and its Ka’ba. The Islamic prophet Muhammad was born into the Hashim clan of the tribe.
The Quraysh still exist as a tribal entity in Arabia. Every Sharif and Sayyid in the Muslim world is technically a Hashimite, and hence a Qurayshi. The Banu Hashim ruled the Hijaz first as Shia Zaydis, and later as Sunnis, for about a thousand years.
Abd al-Muttalib Shaybah ibn Hashim (Arabic: عَبْد ٱلْمُطَّلِب شَيْبَة ٱبْن هَاشِم; c. 497–579), was the grandfather of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.
Overview. Religion in pre-Islamic Arabia was a mix of polytheism, Christianity, Judaism, and Iranian religions. Arab polytheism, the dominant belief system, was based on the belief in deities and other supernatural beings such as djinn. Gods and goddesses were worshipped at local shrines, such as the Kaaba in Mecca.

He was an uncle of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, and father of the Rashidun Caliph Ali.
Muslims believe that the Quran was orally revealed by God to the final prophet, Muhammad, through the archangel Gabriel (Jibril), incrementally over a period of some 23 years, beginning in the month of Ramadan, when Muhammad was 40; and concluding in 632, the year of his death.
Quraysh Today The bloodlines of the many branches of the Quraysh tribe (there were 10 clans within the tribe) are spread far and wide in Arabia—and the Quraysh tribe is still the biggest in Mecca. Therefore, successors still exist today.
The Two Different Tribes of Islam.
As Ishmael grew up in Arabia, he is said to have become fluent in Arabic. In the genealogical trees that the early scholars drew, Ishmael was considered the ancestor of the Northern Arabs and Muhammad was linked to him through the lineage of the patriarch Adnan.
