Studies regarding the genetic make-up of Aboriginal groups are still ongoing, but evidence has suggested that they have genetic inheritance from ancient Asian but not more modern peoples, share some similarities with Papuans, but have been isolated from Southeast Asia for a very long time.
Some aboriginal Australians can trace as much as 11% of their genomes to migrants who reached the island around 4,000 years ago from India, a study suggests. These populations diverged around 36,000 years ago, suggesting that they all descended from an early southward migration out of Africa.
Today more than half of all Aboriginals live in towns, often on the outskirts in terrible conditions. Many others work as labourers on cattle ranches that have taken over their land. Many, particularly in the northern half of the continent, have managed to cling on to their land and still hunt and gather ‘bush tucker’.
The Act defines an Aboriginal person as ‘a member of an Aboriginal race of Australia’. Drummond J concluded that Parliament’s intention was ‘to refer to the group of persons in the modern Australian population who are descended from the inhabitants of Australia immediately prior to European settlement’.

‘ Aborigine ‘ is generally perceived as insensitive, because it has racist connotations from Australia’s colonial past, and lumps people with diverse backgrounds into a single group. Without a capital “a”, ” aboriginal ” can refer to an Indigenous person from anywhere in the world.
It was on this day, only in 1967, that indigenous people were formally recognised as Australian citizens.
Australia’s first people— known as Aboriginal Australians —have lived on the continent for over 50,000 years. Today, there are 250 distinct language groups spread throughout Australia.
After European settlers arrived in 1788, thousand of aborigines died from diseases; colonists systematically killed many others. At first contact, there were over 250,000 aborigines in Australia. The massacres ended in the 1920 leaving no more than 60,000.
Collectively, the Khoikhoi and San are called the Khoisan and are often called the world’s first or oldest people. Like the San, the Nama share DNA with some of the oldest groups of humans. Today, very few pure Nama people exist because of intermarriage with other tribes and a smallpox outbreaks in the 18th century.
The Sentinelese. The Sentinelese are an uncontacted tribe living on North Sentinal Island, one of the Andaman Islands in the Indian Ocean. They vigorously reject all contact with outsiders. Survival International lobbies, protests and uses public pressure to ensure their wish to remain uncontacted is respected.
1838. Myall Creek massacre – 10 June: 28 people killed at Myall Creek near Inverell, New South Wales. This was the first Aboriginal massacre for which white European and black African settlers were successfully prosecuted.
As a result, the Aborigines are going to have blonde hair due to the bleaching from the sun. Some of them say, the blonde hair is caused by mixing with Europeans during colonization. Others say it is due to a genetic mutation. I say, both the Melanesians and Aboriginal Australians are beautiful!

Unlike most other flags around the world, the Aboriginal flag is still protected by copyright. That copyright is owned by Luritja man Harold Thomas, who created the flag for the National Aboriginal Day march in July 1971.
