The History of the Spokane Tribe of Indians Spokane ancestors were a river people, living a semi-nomadic way of life hunting, fishing, and gathering all creator had made available to them. Hayes formerly established the Spokane Indian Reservation of approximately 154,602 land acres known as Chief Lot’s reservation.
The Spokane Tribe of Indians are of the Interior Salish Group, which has inhabited northeast Washington, northern Idaho and western Montana for many centuries. In earlier times, the Spokane Tribe lived on, protected, and respected over three million acres of land.

Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships, and making new ones. This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the rich heritage of American Indians.
They live on a reservation that protects them from outsiders, and their customs and traditions are hunting and fishing, some also trade as well. They speak a language called Salish, men participate in the Salmon Ceremony, bury their dead entire body to keep them from being ghost, and pray and believe in a sun God.
The food of the Spokane tribe included salmon and trout and a variety of meats from the animals and birds they hunted. They supplemented their protein diet with roots, seeds, nuts and fruits.
The reservation was created in 1881 by U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes through Executive Order. Its size–157,376 acres–is a fraction of the roughly 3 million acres Spokane ancestors called home prior to westward expansion of Euroamerican settlers.
As in the past, natural resources are protected by the Spokane Indians. The Spokane Indian Reservation consists of 108,874 acres of forest, 8,552 acres of agricultural land, and 10,328 acres of lakes. The town of Wellpinit is the main population center and the seat of Tribal government.

Members of the tribe have relied on the river for nourishment, medicinal, and spiritual purposes. Spokane Falls was a place for tribal members to gather with family and friends. The Spokane River and the Spokane Falls are in the heart of the ancestral homelands of the tribe.
Compared to other cities and countries, Spokane is definitely not that bad. The crime rate in Spokane is objectively worse than most places in the US. I’m not saying it’s a bad place to live I’m saying it has it’s issues. The only ghetto around here is your mindset.

The correct pronunciation is “Spo-CAN,” not “Spo-CANE.” The name Spokane comes from a Native American tribe. It means “children of the sun.”
