GEOGRAPHY. The Pine Ridge Reservation is the home of the Oglala. The reservation is the eighth-largest reservation in the country, covering 11,000 square miles (approximately 2.2 million acres) in southwestern South Dakota.
The Pine Ridge Reservation occupies the entirety of Oglala Lakota (formerly Shannon) County, the southern half of Jackson County and Bennett County.
It is not safe to visit here, The people are very angry and unkind due to Covid and other issues. I would not recommend visiting for a few years. The entire area of Pine Ridge Reservation is like stepping back in time.
On the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, some 200 Sioux Native Americans, led by members of the American Indian Movement (AIM), occupy Wounded Knee, the site of the infamous 1890 massacre of 300 Sioux by the U.S. Seventh Cavalry. Then, in early 1973, AIM prepared for its dramatic occupation of Wounded Knee.

In addition to poverty rates, reservations are hindered by education levels significantly lower than the national average. Poor healthcare services, low employment, substandard housing, and deficient economic infrastructure are also persistent problems.
Tribal Travel Tips All U.S. highways, state roads and main tribal roads are paved. Secondary roads are usually graded and graveled. However, travel off recognized and numbered roads is strongly discouraged. Inquire locally about road conditions.
The trust services provided by the Agency include Real Estate Services (Leasing, Rights-of-Ways, and Acquisition & Disposition), Fire Management, Social Services, Land Operations, Probate & Estate Services, and Facilities Management. The non-trust services include Executive Direction and Administrative Services.
Now the tribe will give members $25,000 when they turn 18, $25,000 when they turn 21, and the rest when they ‘re 25.
