William & Mary admissions is most selective with an acceptance rate of 38%. Half the applicants admitted to William and Mary have an SAT score between 1320 and 1510 or an ACT score of 30 and 34.
The William & Mary Tribe men’s soccer team represents the College of William & Mary in NCAA Division I college soccer. The team belongs to the Colonial Athletic Association and plays home games at Albert-Daly Field. As of the 2019 season, the Tribe are led by 16th-year head coach Chris Norris.
W&M adopted the nation’s first honor system and created a chair of modern languages. In 1776, Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s first intercollegiate fraternity, was established at William & Mary. And, in 1781, by uniting the faculties of law, medicine, and the arts, William & Mary became America’s first true university.
William and Mary Club Softball is a student-organized softball team that competes against other schools in our area. We are an all-girls team (but we welcome guys to coach!) that plays in fastpitch tournaments and doubleheaders and, on a more casual level, fields a few intramural teams.
It is not as difficult to get into as a private Ivy League school, but it isn’t easy either. In 2018, the acceptance rate at William & Mary was 37%.
William & Mary was founded as an Anglican institution; students were required to be members of the Church of England, and professors were required to declare adherence to the Thirty-Nine Articles.
As for which is better, that’s really a personal choice—it really comes down to your personality and where you will feel most at home. William and Mary has a fairly small campus, and has a more intimate feel. UVa’s graduate schools are better known and generally ranked higher than William & Mary’s.
William & Mary is one of only eight U.S. universities designated a “Public Ivy.” A public ivy is a state-assisted institution that offers a superior education at a cost far below that of Ivy League schools. The Wren Building is the oldest college building still standing in the U.S., and classes are still taught there.

The decision is a partial rollback of plans announced Sept. 3 to cut at the end of the 2020-21 academic year William & Mary’s women’s varsity gymnastics, swimming and volleyball teams, as well as men’s varsity teams in gymnastics, swimming and both indoor and outdoor track and field.
After James’ succession to the English throne in 1685, the Protestant William kept in close contact with the opposition to the Catholic king. James himself was allowed to escape to France, and in February 1689 Parliament offered the crown jointly to William and Mary, provided they accept the Bill of Rights.
Mary’s death left William as sole ruler until his own death in 1702, when he was succeeded by Mary’s sister, Anne.
Why were William and Mary invited to England and why did they accept the offer? William and Mary were invited to England because the people there wanted them to rule together as dual monarchs. Civil war did not erupt when William and Mary arrived because everyone wanted to get rid of James and get William to rule.
