Aboriginal people inhabited the whole of Australia and Torres Strait Islanders lived on the islands between Australia and Papua New Guinea, in what is now called the Torres Strait. There were over 500 different clan groups or ‘nations’ around the continent, many with distinctive cultures, beliefs and languages.

There are no official or accurate figures kept on full bloods. The official census and other questionnaires simply rely on someone, without any substantiation, just ticking a box saying they are an aborigine or a Torres Strait Islander but it never asked whether that person is a full blood or only a part blood.
Aborigines look different from Blacks because they are not blacks. The only similarity is that the majority of them have a skin colour as dark as Black Africans. Aborogines are descended from people who migrated to Australia at least 40 thousand years ago, maybe as much as 70 thousand years ago.
This is an example for how Aboriginal words can be mistaken by speakers of the English language. ‘Deadly’ is an Aboriginal English word for ‘fantastic’, ‘great’ or ‘awesome’. When “deadly” is wonderful.

‘ Aborigine ‘ is generally perceived as insensitive, because it has racist connotations from Australia’s colonial past, and lumps people with diverse backgrounds into a single group. Without a capital “a”, ” aboriginal ” can refer to an Indigenous person from anywhere in the world.
The Turrbal are an Aboriginal Australian people from the region of present-day Brisbane, Queensland. The name primarily referred to the dialect they spoke, the tribe itself being alternatively called Mianjin/ Meanjin. Mianjin was the Turrbal word for the central Brisbane area.
In 1984 a group of Australian Aboriginal people living a traditional nomadic life were encountered in the heart of the Gibson desert in Western Australia. They had been unaware of the arrival of Europeans on the continent, let alone cars – or even clothes.
The extensive study of Aboriginal people’s DNA dates their origins to more than 50,000 years ago and shows that their ancestors were probably the first humans to journey across Asia and cross an ocean. The findings also show that these Aboriginal ancestors remained almost entirely isolated until around 4,000 years ago.
