After the death of Ish-bosheth, the tribe of Benjamin joined the northern Israelite tribes in making David king of the united Kingdom of Israel and Judah.
David was born in Bethlehem, the youngest son of Jesse of the tribe of Judah. The prophet Samuel, after revoking Saul’s designation as king, secretly anointed David as Saul’s successor.
The Tribe of Ephraim joined the new kingdom with Saul as the first king. After the death of Ishbosheth, Saul’s son and successor to the throne of Israel, the Tribe of Ephraim joined the other northern Israelite tribes in making David, who was then the king of Judah, the king of a reunited Kingdom of Israel.
In the New Testament, the genealogy of Jesus according to the Gospel of Luke traces Jesus ‘ lineage back to King David through the line of Nathan, which the Gospel of Matthew traces it through Solomon, the line of Joseph, his legal father.
