Mexico is the location of the Mayan civilisation’s oldest and biggest known structure, which was erected by the Mayan people. It is a massive elevated platform that is 1.4 kilometers in length and is given the name Aguada Fénix.
Large constructions at Nakbe, which is located in the Petén Department of Guatemala, have been radiocarbon dated to about 750 BC. This makes it the most well-documented and oldest Maya city in the lowlands.
The oldest monumental Maya constructions are found in the Petén area. These structures are low pyramids with steps on all four sides ascending to a top platform. One example of this type of structure is the pyramid at Uaxactun that was built in the first century CE and is known as E-VII-sub.

The finding was made in the state of Tabasco, Mexico, at a location known as Aguada Fénix. This location is approximately 1,350 kilometers (850 miles) east of Mexico City. It was in this area, which is today referred to as the Maya lowlands, that the Maya civilisation first started to form.

The Great Pyramid of Cholula is a structure that can be seen in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico.It is also known by the Nahuatl name Tlachihualtepetl, which translates to ″made-by-hand mountain.″ It is the greatest archaeological site of a pyramid (temple) in the New Globe, and it is also the largest pyramid by volume that is known to exist in the world today.Both of these distinctions apply to this structure.
The Maya often organized their urban planning around plaza groupings, which consisted of clusters of buildings arranged around a central square. Both the larger public structures in the city center, like as temples and palaces, and the more intimate residential neighborhoods shared this characteristic.
Mayan temples have been discovered in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, and the Yucatan Peninsula. These structures date back to 300 B.C. Before the arrival of Europeans, these buildings held the record for being the tallest in the Americas.

John Lloyd Stephens was an American traveler and archaeologist. He was born on November 28, 1805, in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, United States, and passed away on October 12, 1852, in New York City. His exploration of Maya ruins in Central America and Mexico (1839–40 and 1841–42) is credited with generating the archaeology of Middle America.
Ruins from the Mayan civilization may be found all across Central America, particularly in Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras. However, Belize is far and away the winner when compared to the other countries in terms of the amount and diversity of Mayan ruins. This well-liked location is home to more than 600 Mayan sites, and the number keeps growing!
As the two great explorers who chronicled the Mayan ruins from Copan in the south to Chichen Itza in the north, the names John Lloyd Stephens and Frederick Catherwood will forever be associated to the Maya and Mayan studies. This is because they discovered and documented the Mayan ruins.
